Hi Dave,

The led units I used have a current regulator built in and work with a supply voltage range of 8 to 18 VDC.
They are originally designed as dome light replacements. I use them also in Teliki's lighting fixtures.
They are reasonably well made, epoxy board and even the foam mounting tape is 3M brand high temp.
At only $2.99 each (including airmail delivery) they are not a bad buy. Time will tell how long they retain their brightness as you tend to get what you pay for with LED's (brightness is from phosphors in the lens, not the LED emitter itself). FWIW, I have been using these units for several years with no issues.

Perfect just what I wanted here. Copying is much easier than learning. I want to go sailing. I will contemplate the why portion of electrical while enjoying the boat.
