There have been ads recently in sailing magazines for replacement anchor lights that use LEDs. The claim is that these lights are "plug compatible" with standard lights and that they use less than 1/10 the power. Does anyone have any experience with these LEDs?

A great but expensive alternative

Those LED lights are great. They will do everything they claim: use less energy, and last a long time. The drawback is cost. If you don't mind it buy 'em. They are the wave of the future. Everyone will be using them soon. And when they do, they will cost less........Davis has a really good anchor light that is less expensive if that is all you need. Ron s/v Best Revenge

LED lights

I know that I am converting to the LED lights next season. Davis has some with higher output now for increased visibility. I figure the long life and less battery consumption with subsequent reduced charging times will more than offset the cost. Dan on Serendipity Too

LED

Another benifit of the led light, other than the reduced power usage, is the significant reduction in the size of wire needed to run up the mast. Less weight and cost there.

Approved?

But are these LED's USCG approved for use as an anchor light i.e. 2 nm visibility range?
