LED anchor light on the cheap?

Hi folks, I have looked and looked to try to find an LED anchor light that I don't have to mortgage the house to purchase.
Has anyone run up on an inexpensive LED anchor light or bought an existing unit and put an aftermarket LED bulb in it with good results?

I have used those solar powered garden lights in the past and they seemed to do an adequate job lashed to the backstay, even providing a bit of light in the cockpit. Probably not legal but visible. Our sailing is mostly in the summer and in higher lattitudes (43s) the nights are quite short at 8 or 9 hours and the light seems to last the time.

Cheap anchor light

Jack, I bought one of the Davis mega lights that you plug into a 12 volt socket. It works well for me .

If you're on a tight budget, get a Davis Mega Light and hang it from the boom when you're at anchor.

Davis mega lite

We bought one six years ago and put it up on the top of our mast. We still use our lamp oil anchor light on the backstay.

Mega light in the foretriangle

On the advise of those on this site, I hang my mega light in the foretriangle. It lights up the deck for added visibility. I keep spare bulbs because some had complained they burned out but I've never had to change a bulb yet.

LED orientation in the Marine Beam

Thanks for the link Maine Sail it looks like a great bulb. I'll get one and try it out. From the picture it seems that 2 of the six LEDs are oriented out the bottom. It looks like two front, two back and two bottom. This would light up the deck (the way I hang the light) which is a good thing. I just wonder if it would be better to have them front back and sides. What do you think? Perhaps I'll get two and modify one with the metcal (solder art).

No need to change a thing. The optical center of the double fresnel lens on the Mega Light coincides perfectly with the Marinebeam bulb. You will have the brightest bulb in the anchorage. I guarantee it!
