The LectraSan is obsolete...the current version is the ElectroScan Raritan ElectroScan Promo Sheet It creates chlorine by charging the ions in salt water with electrical current. You'll find detailed installation instructions including where to install it in the "Installation, Operation and Maintenance Instructions" (aka "owners manual") which you can download from here ElectroScan owners manual
However, I recommend you consider going with the PuraSan instead. Unlike the ElectroScan, it doesn't need salt--chlorine is supplied from cartridge--so it works equally well in salt, fresh or brackish water. It's also easier to maintain.
