Most of my sailing will be on inland waters but with the occasional weekend trips to lake Erie, so relying on batteries scare me and where back to reaching the controls is nearly a circus trick, open water is no problem but entering docks is another

I understand that completely. I added remote shifter and throttle control for the exact same reason. On my V-222 I still removed the 100# outboard for trailering. I used wing-nuts to make it a little quicker but it was still a pain-in-the-neck. Even though I kept the boat on the trailer and had to move the outboard every time I used her it was still worth it to me.

Oh man!... I read that first sentence as if you were asking if any of us left the outboard *running* while trailering...
I'll go grab another beer now...

I had a 9.9 hp 4 stroke Yamaha on the back of my Venture 21. I reinforced the backing plate of the motor mount with 1/2" plywood but still did not like the way it rode on the trailer...too light on the tongue and it bounced a lot. I worried it was too much for the transom. I agree with those who recommend selling it and buying a smaller outboard.

I've got a 85 Honda 4 stroke 7.5 hp and there's not much of a weight difference, I feel I would still need to pull it off everytime, transom does have an xtra board fiberglassed in.
