I am interested in covering the wheel on my 1984 Hunter 34. I am having a hard time deciding between leather and vinyl for the material to use. Does anyone have any information to share that will help me with my decision?

Go with Leather

BoatLeather is the name of one company. I used leather on mine. After 12 years, I have to replace some stitchiong, but you can't beat the feel of leather. There is the look, feel and lack of fatigue (believe it or not). I can't imagine what vinyl would even be like.

Paul, Thank you for your quick reply. Do you have padding under the leather? This is an option some of the companies offer. Did you do the installation yourself? Jack

leather

Jack Never used a vinyl cover so can't make a comparison. If you do choose the leather, it's a nice weekend or one day winter project to do it youtself. As you probably know, you can buy a kit incl the padding which is sticky so it stays in place while to cover the wheel. A suture stitch is easy and makes a nice appearance

Vinyl's gonna be too hot to handle in

warm weather, regardless of the color. Leather looks and feels great. Have had ours on now for over nine years, still in fine shape. Used Edson's leather kit.
