What a novel concept.
I find most YouTube videos are eyecandy or blather. Occasionally one stands out as really helpful. I found this Practical Sailor video informative for the new or average sailboat owner. check it out.

I like #10 the most. I work with heavy machinery daily and the few times i have been injured I had that very distinct 'gut' feeling that what i was about to do was wrong, and it felt very, very uncomfortable. I was summarily injured, luckily not seriously if you dont count loosing a piece of your thumb serious. I have not had that experience sailing yet, but if i ever did, i would give it an extreme amount of consideration.

Good video, good to be reminded of things that are easy to ignore because you hope you'll get away with it.

Can confirm about sailing on a schedule. Someone in the Canadian Coast Guard once told me that in his experience this is by far the most common cause of the calls he got from recreational boaters.

A few lessons I learned early on...
  • Make sure the end of your rode is secured. No, you probably wont be able to catch it before it goes overboard
  • For day sailing it's better to go upwind at the beginning of your sail so you have an easy time getting back. You never know when the weather might change
  • Make sure your batteries are charged and you have enough fuel
  • Don't buy the cheapest motor mount you can find, even if it's rated for double your motor. Be sure to re-tighten your motor clamps after a short time of motoring, then do the same in a little bit
