Leaky Water Tank

I discovered a leak in my 30 gal galvanized water tank which is under the v berth. As I was about to inspect the tank more closely ( the bottom welds) I noticed that the plywood covering the tank and the teak bulkhead in front of the tank are all fiberglassed to the hull. Has anyone had to replace the tank and what did you have to do.

The tanks are made of aluminum. You'll probably have to remove the plywood on the top of the berth, it should be screwed on. Or cut out a hole large enough and then repair it after the tank is replaced.

Repair

I repaired a leaking weld seam in our water tank 2 years ago.Cut an access port in the top, dried the interior completely, coated the welded seams with metal epoxy. Once the epoxy COMPLETELY cured I wiped the epoxy surfaces clean with acetone (get rid of blush chemicals from the cure process) then with soap and water. It's been fine since.Eventually I'll replace the tank but it's bought me several years until then.
