As I move through the 20 or so spring "projects", near the top of thelist is finding and correcting leaks on my '82 O30. I believe thatwater is making its way in at the mast and am preparing to cut off theexisting boot for a better inspection. Since the existing boot hasbeen wrapped with some type of cloth tape, I'm unsure of what I'mgetting myself into. I've seen a replacement offered by Rig-rite, butbased on Don Casey's great instructions, think that fabricating a newboot with an inner tube with canvas cover and hose clamps should workjust as well.I was just wondering if anyone had done this repair as Caseyrecommends replacing when the mast is stepped to kept a continuousrubber gasket around the mast. Since I've no plans on pulling themast this year, I was planning on cutting the inner tube, placing itaround the mast and then resealing with polysulfide or comprablerubber cement. Anyone have any other ideas? One other concern I have is that in Caseys illustration--the areawhere the collar is i.e. the point where the mast passes through thedeck--there appears to be a flange that would provide a good seal withthe recommended hose clamp set up. I'm not sure the same "lip" existson the O'Day set up.Thoughts, comments, or recommendations greatly appreciated.ThanksJoe
