Leaky fuel fitting

is making me crazy! The banjo fitting on the intake side of the fuel feed pump on my Yanmar 2GM20F is leaking and I can't make it stop. I stripped the threads on a previous pump trying to stop the same leak so replaced the pump then used new copper washers and it still leaks. I'm afraid to tighten the bolt through the banjo fitting anymore. The banjo fitting on the output side isn't leaking though I had it off and replaced the washers, too. I think I'll order a new fitting and bolt but the current ones looks fine.

Any helpful hints out there? Other than, just be a man and take it another 1/4 turn.

When all else fails use permatex all fuel dope. or just tighten it until it wrings off and back up half a turn.

you would think the copper washers could be replaced with good firm rubber ones..but yep the copper washers can be coated both sides

Yup, sometimes you have to "dress" the hose fitting back to flatness. Easy to do if you are extremely careful. Remove the hose and fitting and put some 400 grit paper on a FLAT surface like a piece of glass. Alternattly rub both of the sealing faces of the fitting on the paper in little circles until the pattern across the faces are even and any deep scratches have been sanded out. It is extremely improtant to have the faces parallel so be very careful to apply even pressure as you dress. Alternate would be to buy a new hose with end fitting.

You can also use valve grind compound. Just put a small amount on any smooth surface and rub in a circular pattern. If you were going to use emery cloth I would use the finest grit that you can find. It would be easier if you can find the fitting localy to just change it out.

check the fuel lines and see if they are ok next to the bolts....check face of banjos realllly close make sure not cracked or or have a burr or gouge or cut on them.....goooood luck and may you be the winner on this search...is a flustrating pain in the.... also check the bolt itself......how bad is it leaking??? if is really smalll leak, clean everything off really good and place talcum powder on or baby powder on then see where it leaks----turn all off before cleaning !! then after powder then turn on and see wherefrom leak is....good luck...keep posted!!

You know, I had a pesky fuel leak at exactly the same spot on the same engine in my P32. Turned out the hose barb fitting on the pump was a size smaller than on the outlet of the external fuel filter, and the hose itself (thanks to PO). No way you could ever tighten that hose clamp enough. I replaced the fitting on the filter, and naturally replaced the hose, leak went away. Now if I can just get rid of that diesel smell.
