My 1992 Hunter 27, has a four panel companionway hatch, made up of Two acrylic(smoked glass look-alikes) and two wooden panels. They fit really sloppily into the channel that secures them and they leak with the slightest rain. How can I fix this problem or where can I get hatch boards that will keep the weather out. You folks have helped me out before and i know you can again. Thanks in advance. Gary

How about a companionway cover?

Gary: Have you considered a companionway cover? These keep the boat much cleaner inside and keep the water and bugs out too. You should be able to make new boards by using the old ones for a pattern. Each board should have a beveled edge to help prevent water from infiltrating. You can also replace all of the slats with plexiglass too. Once they have a bevel cut, you should be able to size them by using a belt sander to fine tune them.

No leaks on 90 model

Have to ask if the boards are put in with the slope going up as it goes into the companionway. I hope that's a dumb question, but it did take a while to get my wife tu understand there's an in and out side to each. If that's not the case, we do have a slight gap at the top because the boards were sanded once and became a little shorter. Perhaps the drain holes in the cockpit side of the companionway frame are plugged. Water could pool in the frame and leak in the cabin.
