Leaks from solar vents

My 84 Hunter 40 leaks brown drops from the vents into the boat. I covered the vents to see whether the problem was in the vents themselves or elsewhere. Despite covering the vents, leaks still occur, at about the same rate. Obviously, water is getting in somewhere else and travels to the easy place to get out, the vents. I am wondering if this has happened to other boats and, if so, whether there is one place that is more likely than another for water to filter in. I have corked the base of the mast, and all around the portholes on top of the deck, and I have no idea what else to do. Any suggestions? Thank you very much. Mauro C. Dal Canto

replace the orings

On my hunter 30 with solar powered vents the large O ring that fits between the vent and the deck deteriorates and will leak if water is blown in from the side or while the deck is being washed

Thanks for your reply. The O rings are new, and the problem is that leaks occur after covering the solar vents completely. The water must be traveling from somewhere else, and my question was if anybody had any idea what would be the most likely source given the site of leaking. Mauro C. Dal Canto
