I have a hunter 23 I just purcheased last summer, and like most of them, she collect rainwater. Not asking for advice in stopping leaks, theres plenty of that in the archives - but heres my concern. Where is all this water that gets under my floobards? I pump it out, and it refills from these two tiny drain holes. Is this water inside my stringers and such?!!? where is it - what is it rotting out - and what happens when it FREEZES! because it is definitly frozen right now - i dont see any giant cracks in my hull, but it is rather disconcerting to imagine these small passage filled with water and then freezing. I mean- i'm going to assume that after 20 years this leakiness isnt new, and i'm sure it's spent many other winters filled with water and frozen, but Im just looking for some real info on whats going on.

Maybe!

when and if the water freezes it might crush and crack the fiberglass around the stringers. If the crack is big enough water will leak in and start to rod the wood. I say to this, so what! Use your boat it will out live you. Are you planning on being out in the perfect storm? If you are the dry stringers is not going to help you. What you can do to keep the fiberglass from cracking is pump the fresh water out of your boat every month during the winter. Keep lots of antifreeze in the bilge. You will have salt water in your bilge during the summer. The salt water will help preserve the wood. Another thing you can do is fix any cracks you can find. You have to do it right or the repair will not last. I hope you are not locking the water in the wood. I don't think it is worth it!

Hunter 23

I have a Hunter 23. It does the same thing as yours. I don't worry to much about it. I just pump it out once a month. I never pump much more than a gallon or two.
