Leaking!

My husband and I are very close to buying a 1981 33 - the boat needs a lot of work - but we are not as afraid of what we DO know from survey - as we are of what we do NOT know. There is standing water in the locker under the starboard settee. It appears to be fresh and there are no signs of staining as you would expect to see with a long term leak. It is a lot of water, though! Any suggestions? Probably not related - but the surveyor found evidence of past standing water in the cabin - he found some blistering in the liner in 3 places and the cabin sole veneer is delaminated. Thanks for any help.

fresh water?

the fresh water hose from the tank to the pump passes under the starboard settee. Could it have leaked? The tank contains 48 gallons.

Leakage

I agree with Tim. We have a 1980 33 and the fresh water line runs along the hull down the starboard side. Sounds like that's your problem and most likely an easy fix. As for indications of standing water, is the boat up on poppits and how long has it been for sale? When we were looking at boats we found many had been out for a while and the electrical system down so over a period of time some had collected a considerable amount of rainwater. Just a thought! Good luck! Garry

thanks - and another ?

We'll check that - would be great if that turns out to be the problem. Now - what do we do about the water in the cockpit locker? A diaphram pump? Thanks - Dave

More leaks

In our cocpit locker there's an access cover then a small area beneith that. This is where our fresh water pump is and a lot of "plumbing" for the freshwater system. If water is collecting in there then the small drain hole all the way forward in the space is probably blocked. If you have water in there it's probably fresh water. Still sounds like a minor issue. Good luck! Garry http://www.99main.com/~elmergw/

My Hunter 33

My Hunter 33, that I love, had many leaks when I purchased her, but all where fresh water, as in rain, except a poorly mounted engine shaft strut that I recommened every one check for a backing plate. My boat is dry as a bone now and a beautiful place to live. Nothing some 5200 and Aquarium Sealant couldn't fix
