I have a 1979 Irwin Citation 30 water tank that is leaking around the output water valve connection. Because of the age of the tank, I don't know if it is a good idea to try to remove this and reseat the valve from such an old tank or better to try and patch it. Thanks for any suggestions.

Just a month ago, my outlet fitting on my vee berth tank started to leak. I attempted a patch, that held for about 3 days. I then removed the fitting, cleaned and checked the threads in the tank wall and replaced it with a new one. No more leaks. I have a plastic tank and nylon fittings. .....just my experience with this problem.

h2o tank leak

I am assuming that this is your only water tank? If so, unless you really want to get your water from jugs, then I'd guess you don't have much choice.
Pull it apart & see what's going on. Most likely the caulking around the outlet has deteriorated; clean & replace with fresh caulking, NOT 5200 (it is a glue, not caulking). Sometimes the plastic fittings (normally thru hull fittings) crack & leak, too.
But unless you have deep pockets, you are going to have to tackle jobs like this, as they come up, yourself, if you want to have a boat.
Good luck & let us know what you found.
