Although I can not find a leak in galley area or at the water heater, I believe that I may have a damaged water line between hull and hull liner in that area, as I run out of water when system left pressurized. I have checked bot stern and port water tanks, no leaks.. and also no level drop when water pump is off Has anyone had this experience? Is there a joint down under that I can't find? Do i just start replacing hoses? Seems hard with that liner..kind of like repairing water lines in a slab foundation.

leak in galley

I also have a leak in the galley under the sole near the stove. It appears to be the ice box. We have not used the ice box for a few weekends and the water did not return. I tried to get to the hose but I can't without tearing the whole galley apart, or so it seems. Are you sure it's a water line?

Check Hot Water

If the hot water heater is the original... check for seepage from inner tank. Connect the in and out lines together and bypass the tank. If leak stops, you have found the problem. George

It has to go somewhere

If you have a water leak that emptys a tank, it has to go somewhere. If it is a hose, fitting or the hot water tank which are all inside the boat, you should see water in the bilge. If you do not, maybe it is a sink or shower faucet dripping. A tank is about 25 gals and that would show up in the bilge pretty quick if your bilge pump is not up to snuff. The quest fittings tend to leak and I would start looking there. I have replaced many of the quest fittings with vinyl hose and hose barbs with SS clamps at the water pump and hot water heater (the temp change makes them very vulnerable to leaking). Since the leak occurs when the system is pressurized then the area between the tank and pump are ok. If the hot water tank has a hole in the engine coolant loop inside the tank, the engine coolent tank would overflow (it only holds about a pint!) Think it out before you start replacing things. Good hunting...

Listen for pump to run

Shut off all the faucets and turn the pump switch on. If you hear the water pump run intermittently when the pressure is on, then you will know that the pressure is releasing and tripping the pump back on. This is definitely a sign of a leak in the pressure system. If you isolate the water heater from the system (connect the plumbing "in" to the "out"), then this would also eliminate the water heater connections/tank.

Response to Paul B on water line leak

Hey Paul.. I at first discounted the water as from the ice box.. but the water tank drains empty..

Little leak

Just wanted to mention that the leak that caused the pump to cycle was minute and hard to spot... even the slightest leak will cycle the pump.

Hot Water Tank Leak

For about two years I had a small leak from the Quest ell at the water heater had a heck of a time stopping it (and finding it). I replaced it with a bronze ell and attached a bronze compression fitting to the end of the Quest pipe and that cured the problem. This is the same problem I think that that Mr Dreyer mentioned in his post.
