we are purchasing a cat 25 with swing keel. There is a leak of some sort around the keel. Has anyone dealt with this and how hard is it to fix. The floor has been cut out and we are going to need to replace the floor in the galley, where will I find the replacement wood? Right now it looks to be like wainscoat, tongue and groove? It is a 1985. Thanks

Sounds like trouble to me.

Your description of the floor makes me wonder if it has not already been replaced once before. I have never seen a boat with T & G wainscoating for a floor and , even though I am not intimate with the 25, this does not sound like Ctalina's type of construction. The keel leak could be do to a number of problems. I would be very concerned about where the opening in the hull turns upward to form the housing. I can see a lot of potential problems here. Unless there is some dynamite equipment on this boat, like brand new sails, I question whether it is worth the effort to repair, much less buy.

leaking keel

it is selling for only 2500.00, they cut the floor to fiberglass. It was sailed about 10 miles to the current location.

All swing keel

leak! Every one what has heavy ballist! I had a San Juan 21 and it leak. What happens is the keel slaps around in heavy seas. It is banging against the keel well creating micro cracks in the fiberglass. There are wood supports incased in the fiberglass that saturate with water and swell. This crack the fiberglass inside the boat. The fiberglass inside the boat now leaks. If you leave the boat in the water for the season the wood sweels up and the leaks stop or slow down. This is hard to fix and franky not worth the effort. The boat will last for a long time before it has a date with a chain saw! The keel well also leaks when you are sailing. The water is pumped up the keel well and inters the boat at the swing keel bolt or or keel cable hole. Fixed keel production boats leak too! They lead at the keel boat or other places near them. Sail away and keep a bucket and sponge on board! Have fun and enjoy your boat! Droop PS: Yes all boats leak to alll you, "my boat doesn't leak".
