We bought a 1987 ODay272 and the boat apparently had an injury on the Port side mid-ship. Now we have a leak all along the rubrail on that side. Has anyone ever encountered this problem? If so, how did you fix it? I don't see how to remove the entire rail and caulk it. Thanks.

I actually saw a sailboat in the Bahamas this last winter that had fixed his leaky toe rail by adhering multiple rolls of duck tape all along his starboard side. Of course it looked like crap. Once you are sure of the offending leaky part, you should fix it right the first time. If it is the toe rail or rub rail, take it off, clean up the area good, repair any corresponding damage (there's always more to the job) and re-bed it correctly. Think of the pride in a job done well!
I found a leak in the hull/deck joint last night in the Vberth. I am going to take off the entire rubrail and use resin and fiberglass cloth to fill in and seal the gap permanently.
This winter when I haul her, I will do it in the yard.
The other option is duct tape. You may be able to disguise it as a pinstripe job. IF you are going to do this option, don't skimp on the tape get the good stuff so you can be proud of your work. One other note, there is colored duct tape, don't be a hero, just go with a muted color.
