When underway and the transom is under water I have quite a water leak coming through the hull to deck joint, which has damaged the rear bulkhead and matress. My 306 is only three years old, and Hunter through my dealer is not willing to repair it under the five year warranty. They claim it is not a structural defect, they are prepared to supply the materials but not the labor , which is the big cost,. I feel this is a manufacturing defect , the adhesive was not applied properly, and should be totally covered.Would appreciate hearing from anyone having had a similiar experience.

Sealant cracking

Robin Repair of the transon/hull joint, which I think you refer to, is a bigger job than you might actually have. I'd first try to remove and replace the aft hull/transon rub rail and reseal it to see if that cures the problem. We had a similar problem with a leak at the deck/transom/hull union which went away with judicious use of some Lifecaulk. Don

Cheape, faster, better

Not sure if your situation paralleled mine with H29.5 but here' s what worked. Carefuly clean out the old sealant and let dry. Replace with LifeSeal clear caulk, small bead. You'll be astonished. ...and you don't have to do the underside, just the topside.

Bill, is it necessary to remove the rub rail? Do you have to separate the hull from the deck? Would sealing from the inside be affective.

I had same thing happen

When my 2001 -290 same as your 306 was new less 6 months old I found a leak at the stern between the ladder it seems a small spot was missed at the factory and it would leak when motoring so I took a picture after taking the bulk head off and saw the leak while motoring. I sent the picture to dealer and he contacted hunter with picture and they took care of it. The boat was removed from water and the rub rail removed and removed the bolts than wedges put in between and sealer added, but that was with in the first year. I would look for the leak and see if they screwed up at the factory and than send copy to hunter demanding they make good,it would have been big $$$$ for me to do it,good luck after the first year they are tuff.

Double check

Try and find the leak make sure its from the joint and not a screw from the ladder or anything with screws in the stern also could be leaking water in and than it will be less trouble to fix.

Nick , my leak is in the exact same spot as yours.I've heard that there were quite a few with this problem. Did you have to replace the bulkhead?
