Leaking Keel?

I own a 1982 catalina 27 that ive had for 2 years, Reciently, Ive noticed there is water in the bilge area where the keel bolts are. Ive ruled out any possibility of rain water leaking in. I dried the area and came back 2 weeks later, no water. I took a 5 hr sail and had 1 inch of water. I dont think its leaking from the knott meter otherwise i feel it would be leaking all the time. Has anyone else ran in into this problem? What was the fix and what did it cost?? Thanks Fred

Do you have an inboard engine? If so, water drips in around the spinning prop shaft when underway. The stuffing box can be adjusted to increase or decrease the rate of dripping; some dripping is needed when underway to cool and lubricate the spinning shaft.
