Leaking Hatch

Hello Everyone,
I have a 1997 Catalina 22 MKII with a Bomar hatch forward (20x20). Pretty sure the sealant has failed and the hatch needs to be removed and re-bedded. Looks deceptively easy ... but has anyone actually done this on a cat22? Looks like a dozen screws and pull out. Looks like only fiberglass below .. no wood/core? Anyway, if anyone can chime in on hidden land mines it would be appreciated.
Thanks,
carlos

I don’t have your model boat, but I did pull one of my hatches recently to rebed it.

Mine was not through-bolted..just screws holding it down. I did remove an interior trim ring first just to see what was under there.

Removed the screws on top, pried up gently to release the sealant (mine was sealed with butyl tape).

Cleaned the deck area and the hatch flange. Applied butyl tape to the flange, and dropped it back in place and replaced the screws.

It gives you a chance to inspect the deck core in the area (hopefully no issues will be found :yikes:).

My O’Day 322 is cored with some sort of foam, and all seemed good.

I will tackle my forward hatch sometime soon.

Good luck.

Hey Greg,
Thanks for the info. Mine looks similar but there is no interior ring. We still have a month before I need to pull her from the lake for the winter so most likely won't get to this immediately. Sounds pretty straightforward, though.
