I have a 26ft Clipper Marine. It has recently started leaking from the keel cable when I drop my swing keel. Any ideas on how to stop it?

The wire should exit the run well above the water level, even when heeled. If water is coming out the top of the cable run tube, then the boat is deeper in the water than designed. Lighten the boat!

I don't know the 26ft Clipper Marine at all. I was talking generalities, as we have a centerboard too, but we are way different boats.

Bawlmer im not sure if it is attached to a piston on the other side this is my first sailboat and don’t know much about them it’s hard to tell when it’s on the trailer and the keel is up as far as I can tell there is a cable and a winch is there any easy way to check when it’s on a trailer ?

My previous boat had a swing up centerboard using a piston. The arrangement in your pic is not familiar to me. I am guessing that the sleeve and cable are vertical. The only guess I have is that the piston (if any) was pulled all the way through the sleeve and out the underwater end which would cause the leak. Were you able to winch up the centerboard before you pulled the boat or did you have to raise it another way? Sorry but still stuck on the piston arrangement.

I was able winch it up no problem I took the boat out a couple times with no leaks problem at all but the last couple times I took it out is when it leaked is there any way to check for the piston while the boat is on the trailer?

I do not think so. I had to haul my boat (Irwin 23) to address my swing keel. Also You have a different arrangement than the one I have. I respectfully submit that I will not be much help on this one.

With the zerk there to lubricate something, I'm guessing that there must be some sort of valve arrangement to keep the water out because it is below the water line.
I've never seen anything like it so I really cannot help further, other than to suggest you pump that zerk full of a good waterproof grease like boat trailer wheel bearing grease and see whether that helps. If not, it does look as though that fitting is serviceable. If you have to go there, please post pictures as I'd be really interested to understand that fitting.

So I opened it up and it doesn’t look like there is anything in it but I did find what looks to be some left over oakum is it possible that’s all that sealed it I’m thinking since my cable was pretty shredded that it hooked to the oakum and pulled it out therefore removing the seal ?

I suppose it is possible that oakum saturated with grease could make a waterproof seal around a wire. I've not seen it before, but perhaps there are some old salts on here that have.
Thanks for the pics.
