Leaking companionway hatch

I just moved up from a Catalina 22 to a 1987 Catalina 30. I have had the boat for two weeks. I have noticed that water is accumulating in the port side track that the companionway hatch slides forward in. Also, water must be accumulating within the housing because I had a lot of water that leaked onto the cushions just forward of the sink. I noticed the two square weeping holes on the aft end of the teak tracks but was wondering if you are aware if there are any weeping holes at the forward end of the companionway hatch housing? The holes at the aft end seem higher than where the water is accumulating, there must be a way to drain the water farther forward.

Forward holes

The drain holes are at the forward end of the hatch slide. If you look at the forward end of the teak slide covers on the slides, there is a small drain hole beneath or just beside it. It is quite visible from the forward view. If they are blocked then you would certainly get water in the cabin. David Four Feathers

Hatch woes

Same problem on my 87' 30. If you take the plastic molding off you may notice that the water might be coming in thru the screw holes. If the water is brown its gotten into the wood core. If that's the case it could be getting in thru the teak trim(screw holes) that holds the sliding hatch down. If your patient, they say you can clean out the tracks with a high pressure water nozzle(and a big bucket to catch the overflow). I took mine apart (big job)refinished and reassembled. It still fills up with dirt. I don't think there would be a problem if the 30 didn't list to port so much. Good luck!

Check your fixed portlites for leaks around the

gasket in the frame. A very likely source of your wet cushions.
