My 5 year old bimini started leaking last week-end. Does anyone know of a water repellent that works.

I have used the West Marine sealant with good results. When my bimini was reaching the end of it's useful life, just for the heck of it and at the advice of a frugal dock mate, I used Thompson's Water Seal for one season. It was certainly less expensive and worked really well. I had Persian Green Sunbrella at the time that was very faded. The Thompsons did not alter the color, streak, crack.......It actually worked.

My bimini is over 10 years old and has never been treated. The difference is that the material is Sunbrella Plus (vinyl coated on the underside. I suggest that anyone contemplating have a dodger or bimini made, pay to upgrade to Sunbrella plus from the horizontal surfaces (possible standing water). If you get any mold/mildew on the underside it is extremely easy to clean with something like Simple Green.

Capt Cook, could advise the model of Thompson's Water Seal you use? I've checked, there are several type so don't know which you use.

I have used a product from Walmart I think it is called Campo that comes in a spray can. It is located in shoe department and in camping area. It last about a year and it requires 2 cans for my bimini and dodger and cost around 6 bucks per can. It works great and does not alter the color of fabric.
