After a recent 3 day rain here in Dallas, I noticed my v berth cushions are soaked. It looks like the water came in on the starboard side and ran down the burlap cloth on the hull (it was still a little damp). This is the first time I noticed this, but it doesn't rain that much in Dallas and I have only had the boat 5 months. The question is, where is is comming from? I plan to re-bed the bow rail stantions and the bow cleats this weekend and hope that fixes it. The leak appears to be in that area, but the water in running down the lip of the fiberglass headliner, so its hard to tell. Hopefully it is not either the toerail or the rubrail, but I would like to hear any of your experiences as I chase this down. Thanks for your help.

I have a 34 that developed a similar leak. I found it at the attachment plates of the pulpit. The water was running off of the sloped surfaces of the deck and seeping in. My solution was simple, I loosened the attachments and injected rubberized sealant under the edges and then retightened, wiped off the excess. Problem solved for me. If you have an anchor locker, you might also check the drain hose.

I just bought an O23 in the end of July. Boat seemed water tight and dry. We didn't have much rain all summer so water was not a problem. Recently we had two heavy rains. After each rain I pumped about 3 gallons out of the bilge. I felt the only place it could be coming from was the drain hose from the anchor locker. (Just the carpeting in the bow would get wet.) When I went to remove the hose, etc. to replace it with new,I realized, the foredeck was draining into the anchor locker and then into the V berth!!! The fitting, in the bow, that the drain hose was supposed to attach to to funnel the water out was not there. The previous owner had just spray foamed the end of the hose to the hole in the bow. The spray foam had separated from the hull. All of the water was draining into the cabin. I was able to get something in the hardware store that fit through the hole in the bow. I attached the drain hose to it. It seems to work fine. I'm not even sure I will call Rudy for the correct part. Even though I do not seem to be getting any from the bow pulpit, etc., I will be rebedding all of these fixtures in the spring. Good Luck, David

Just got through re-bedding the pulpit and fixed the bigest leaks. Still have a small drip from the bow lights which is my next project. I did check the anchor locker hose and it is fine. I also noticed water in the front bilge area yesterday after a rough sail in some 15-25 conditions, a cup or 2. I think it is coming in throught the bow towing eye as I have had this happen on other boats. It only seems to occur after sailing in big waves. By the way, I used my 65% storm jib for the first time and it handled the big puffs just fine (I was getting 30 apparant over the deck beating). One problem though,is the sheeting angle. I am using the fixed block for the working jib which has 2 problems. The first is the sheeting angle is too wide only allowing me to point within about 50 degrees to the wind. The second is that there is too much twist in the upper part of the sail. I would appear that I need another block further forward and inward to correct these issues. Has anyone done this yet? It would be good to know before drilling any new holes in the deck.

No insult intended, just good advice. The best way to find the leak is to be there when it happens. How? Meet Mr. Garden Hose. Set up the garden hose on your foredeck. Turn it on and go below. Don't be in a hurry. Wait for it. Have a cup of coffee and hopefully you can enjoy the show. You can move the hose from area to area if you'd like, just be sure to give each area a good amount of time. Be sure to feel the overhead around the hatch area too. Too much water too fast, they leak. Could even be sealant between the pane and the hatchframe. Easy fix. Anyway, if you have to reset anything, remember to apply, set in place lightly (but securely), let cure, then cinch down. It's a gasket, not a glue. By the way, don't use 5200 unless you never want it off again. Hope this helps. Enjoy.

Thanks Steve, I did just that and it looks like I'm in good shape now. Both the aft pulpit stanchions were leaking as was the starboard nav light. Looks like all are water tight now. We will see after the next big rain this weekend.
