leaking around cockpit drain plug

My R19 leaks around the cockpit drain plug, more with the new plug in than the old one. I noticed a bit of gray epoxy arond the hole, but I wouldn't want to glue the plug in. Also, the CB has a hole in it near the bottom, and has expanded so that it sticks in the trunk. Any advise on these 2 (latest) problems? ( The boat is about 30 years old; I got it last summer. Lots of fun to sail).

Problems

Do you mean that the water is going between the plug and the drain fitting, or do you mean that water is going around the drain fitting? In the first case, try putting Vasoline on the plug before you stick it in the fitting. In the second, get a small tube of 4200 and seal around the fitting from both the inside and the outside. As far as the centerboard, you need to let it dry out. Assuming you don't want to haul the boat for the summer, I'd pull it and then seal the break. Then next winter you drill some holes into it, let it dry for a few months, seal it back up, fair it and be done. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Thanks...

Thanks, I think I get your meaning about the drain plug. The water is seeping from between the plug and the hole. Vaseline should do it. The other problem, with the centerboard: How can I pull the board w/o hauling the boat? Second: should I attempt to "fill" the hole, as opposed to just "sealing" the hole? I may not have been specific; the dime -size hole in the board reveals an area about 2/12/" "hollow" inside the board. Finally: what should I use? Your time and suggestions are appreciated. Pat
