Hi;
do you know where the water comes from? 10 to 15 liters is quite a lot! Check all the through-hull fitings and shot-off valves, and if you have a depth-sounder, (or maybe a mechanical speedometer- you should see that in the bilge),.
Good luck, Wilhelm, V-257

This is a suplemental question to your response Steve. Does anyone
know a source for Window Molding / Rubbers in the Pacifi Northwest - I
live in the Vancouver / Victoria area.

I've got the same, though much smaller issue with window leakage, and
I'm assuming that calking is just a messy short term fix - not a
solution.Thank you,

Window rubbers or aluminium window set (Im fitting a set to my vega at the moment)

There are 2 different type of rubber profile used. Series I & 2 use one sort, Series III use the other.

Dont know any suppliers in teh US

I'm not sure what the protocol is for mentioning business names, but I
found a source of rubber gaskets in the UK. http://www.ner-
seals.co.uk/ . I'm still looking for a source locally - in the
Vancouver / Seattle area.

Kevin,
Check out message #12271 (Jan 31/08) on the Yahoo site. There are
several posts under the subject "Port Light Seals".

I posted sources of rubber and tools. Also, some automotive and truck
glass shops carry the rubber and a plain black lock strip. There are
several different thicknesses available.

Thank you Peter - I've got the "new kid on the block" syndrome - just
getting used to how things work, and where things are stored. Thanks
for the info.

If it's only on a sailing trip... what does that mean?

Maybe your hull stresses are making what ever it is get wider.
Do vegas get keel wiggle issues?

Only on the port side under the seats?...My vega doesn't have anything there (maybe I should look. LOL). Is it possible that it's comming in somewhere else and showing up under the seats? But 10-15 liters comming into a boat shouldn't be hard to see.

There are small holes that drain those lockers, port and starboard,
into the bilge by the batteries. It could be that the drain hole on
the port side is plugged and so the water is accumulating there. You
can clear it with a piece of wire. It doesn't explain where the water
is coming from but it could explain why it's showing up only on the
port side. If it has fuel in it, it sounds like bilge water to me
that is slopping over when you are sailing and then not draining.

sounds to me like water sloshed out of the bilge on a hard starb'd tack and was held behind the finely fitted woodwork of the settee. if it doesn't drain back to the bilge but grows then you have a leak, I guess.

I bought mine from Ken R Humke Co in Portland, Oregon. They have various styles and, I believe, a catalog. You'll also need the tool to install the locking strip. Buying a whole box of material gives you more than enough. I helped a couple of people?get material a few years ago at no markup for me, but stopped doing it when one of the owners had a newer Vega with a different rubber profile. As I have no way of knowing what each one looks like, I decided not to take the risk. My Vega is an older one and the material works great. You can find their contact information on line.

My depthsounder is on the port side (the speedometer cable came through on starboard, but I took it out and fiberglassed that hole). Look closely if you find a wet spot- if it's near the depthsounder, the leak could be there.
Like you said- 10-15 liter is quite a bit! You might have the boat out of the water to fix a leak.

Under my setee on the port side (Series I Vega) is a covered duct
against the hull bottom (inboard, front to back) that is used for
condensing moisture out of the boat. It's part of the ingenious Vega
ventillation system.

I wonder if this is somehow involved in 'moisture' accumulation?
But .... 15 liters ?? !!
