I have read that some of the 376 owner had experienced water leaks under the mast. I will like to now how this condition was corrected?? I have a serious water leak condition only when it rains not when I am pouring water on top of the deck. Thanks.................

We had a similar problem when we purchased ...

our boat from the PO. They tried to fix it using Silicone II, but to no avail. I did the repair four years ago and it remains leak free. Check out the H42 knowledge base for my repair article. Terry

Make sure the leak is not........

.... coming from under the solar panel. If the seal around the area where the solar panel wire comes into the boat, you will get water inside the three overhead cabin lights, down the sides of the headliner on both sides of the boat, and even out the inside vents for the dorade vents. Ther is no "hole" in the boat for the mast to go through, or to leak through. However, directly in front of the mast where the mast wires go through the hull, there is a possibility for a leak here. Check the solar panel area first Good luck..... Jeff

Water leak

Thanks Jeff, exactly water is comming down thru the wiring system under the mast. Do you have an idea how to stop water comming at that point.. I will try under the mast but I think it will be more effective top down instead down up.

H376 Mast Step

My 376 mast step plate has a short stainless tube extending upwards into the mast. The idea is that the internal wiring can come through this so there are no wires to be seen on deck. It seemed obvious that:- 1) If for any reason water ran down inside the mast and did not drain away, then it would enter the boat through this tube. 2) When the yard was stepping the mast or taking it down then the wiring would easily be severed. The yard said that after they had nearly erected the mast they would pass the wiring through this tube and then they would fill the hole with silicone rubber whilst the mast heel was still a foot off the deck. I said baloney - do a proper job. Accordingly I said NO to this arrangement and demanded the wiring be external and thru a proper deck gland. Anyhow it looks as if you may have exactly this problem. Indeed it might be impossible to seal multiple wires as well as seal the hole. I suggest drilling a couple of 1/8" holes as near the base as possible to ensure water can drain out and also to take down the removable panel inside the cabin, poke about till you can see this tube and fill it best you can with foam. Hope this cures it.

Hi Juan, go to the boat information section of ...

this site and scroll to 42 for the "Knowledge Base" information. I have an article that I wrote about what I did to repair the mast step leak on our boat, which I suspect is the same with your boat. Terry

Water leak under the mast

Donalex, I will like to thanks other 376 Hunter owners for their support. This is all about sharing ideas to improve our quality of sailing life. Donalex your recommendations of openning a few 1/8 of an inch at the botom of the mast is supper, in addition of adding some sealant. I will try that. PD. please feel free to maintain communication at all times. Hope my sailing vacation at the US Virgin Island are great. Thanks to all......
