I posted a message a while ago about our new 260 leaking in the front. We only sail in the ocean so it has got to be a leak from above (cos its fresh water in there). The problen is I have hosed down this yacht time and time again yet can't see any water coming in. Could the water be coming in elswhere, perhaps the hatch or further aft and finding its way along the lining and spilling out into the front locker? Any help would be much appreciated.

Boats leak

You could sit inside the closed boat while someone shot a firehoze and you wouldn't see the leak. Some of it is condensation in the wall liner, some leaks down the stanchion post holes, some seeps in from who knows where. The trick is to check weekly and mop up the bilge to keep it fresh.

Check the anchor locker drain.

Remove the small panel in the v-berth and check the drain hose for the anchor locker. It wouldn't be the first time that this hose either is loose or has a broken spot in it. Also check the bedding of the through hull connection in the anchor locker and the hull. Good luck finding your leak. Bob Gravenstine s/v Gravyboat

Bow leak

Don't accept the leak. If it's a new boat make your dealer fix it. I was getting water in my lockers down below and after talking to my dealer and Hunter's reps about it they discovered a hairline crack in the deck by the galley window. They did some fiberglass work which I can't even see and I haven't had a drop of water inside the boat in almost a year. Hunter keeps extensive archives and if you are specific enough in describing your leak they will know if they have dealt with it before and what the fix is.

Thanks

Thanks Bill and Bobs. We live about 400 miles from where we purchased the yacht. Yes it is something that could be looked at under warranty but we thought we might seek a remedy we can do ourselves rather than worry the dealer. The removal of the plate at the front will be the next job. I am hoping that when it is removed we may be able to "see" if the clamp on the water filler pipe is also secure. We removed the fitting for the filler on the bow and found you can't check the clamp (cos it won't pull through). We refitted using sicaflex. Just about to head off for a days sailing. Perfect weather 10 knot breeze and not a cloud in sight. Thanks again and regards from the wild West.

water tank

If its substantial and consistent, I'd track it like a rabbit and get it fixed. Water unaccounted for can lead to rot. My problem was the water tank hose fitting that leads to the faucet. Had to totally remove everything, air it out and fix the fitting. I stay dry now (until my CB pedestal spewed a gallon this weekend!). brian h240

Anchor latch throw bolt?

Check the anchor hatch latch hole. Ours was leaking due to the latch hole penatrating into the foam space. We sealed the hole and had to cut the latch throw bolt 3/8" shorter.
