During a super heavy rainstorm today I discovered water was getting into the aft cabin light. I took off the lens cover which was filled with water and dripping on the bunk below. It looks to me as though that is directly below the mainsheet shackle attachment in the cockpit. Is there a method of removing the light unit so that I can re-seat the mainsheet padeye with proper bedding compound? Is there another likely source of such a leak? Thanks for any help.

leaking into light

I had a 26 hunter which leaked around the compression post and thru the overhead light, I removed the light and shot foam insulation into the hole and attached the light no more problems but it still leaked around the compression post, so I shot the foam around the sheaves that enter the base of the mast, and that stopped that leak. I don't know whether the headliner extends from the bow all the way to the stern in one piece if it does, look around the base of the mast...good luck

Rebed the hardware

I sailed a 23.5 and found that some of the hardware had not been bedded I removed my and recaulked those area and the leaks disappeared. I would not shoot foam upthere as you are ony stopping water from exiting the headliner and not preventing its entrance. I used one of the polysufide caulks in order to diassemble the parts in the future. Don't use 3M 5300 unless you plan never to take it apart in the future.
