Leak in a light fixture

My fairly recently purchased H40.5 has a leak in the saloon area that makes its way into the starboard light fixture at the aft of the settee (just forward of the nav station.) I suspect the leak is originating from one of the large port lights. I have applied "Boat Leak" to the areas that appear to be in need but so far the leak persists. Any ideas? Sounds like my problem.

Bill: We have a '85 H'31. We had a similar symptom on ours the year before we replaced the compression post. I do not know how your boat is constructed but on the H'31's and H'34's they get water in the mast which leaks down the to the deck and then into the head liner and you know the rest of the store. Of course if you let it remain that way then you get rot in the cross member, bulkhead, compression post etc. Anyway that is were I would start looking. You need to step the mast and see.

Similar Problem

Two 376/380's have similar problems relating to inadequate cauking of the wiring that runs down from the mast into the cabin. I bet that is your problem too. The dealer came to the boat and tried to fix it but it still leaks. I had the same problem last year and he was able to fix it then.

Leak at Light

I have leak over the table. I used a mirror to look thru at the light fixture back towards the line orginizer bolts.up on deck. I have not repaired yet but I beleive it is leaking around the screws that mount the orginizer down on the port side that has consist pressure for the jib. That should be the pulley to the outside. Hope this helps.

Lookin the mast step

I also have a 40.5 The area I have had problems with is at the mast step were the various wires lead nto the boat from the mast. This is a common problem on 40.5 and may be the source of your problem.

Water from the mast electric wiring.

Had small water leak from the electric cables leading into the salon from the mast on my H40.5.... I used some pressure expanding spray foam (used in calking cracks etc. at home)through a small spout up past the wires to solve this problem... Cheers...stay dry.
