While the mast is lowered for the winter i am going to rebuild, rewire it, and install a new antenna and coax. Think I want to do a Lazy Jack set-up too. I see some "kits" on the market , or, I could just design/build my own. my question is: is there a good kit out there reasonable for a 86, h23 w/ a Kenyon mast or is it more economical to build my own. I sometimes know it ends-up more cost effective just to buy "off the shelf" as opposed to buying piece at a time. if i build my own, does anyone have any plans/diagrams/parts list/measurements etc. regards, william

on this site and you'll find plans to build your own. I bought a kit made by Barton. It contained good quality stuff and was easy to install. If you single hand they're awesome. *********MERRY CHRISTMAS***********

The nicest easy to build lazy jacks I have seen are on Mike Epps boat, I think there are pics somewhere here, I have seen them in person and anyone can do it they way he did and not spend much money in the process, good luck /Mike Bacome

I'm in the market as were . Colonial Beach
My H22 has lazy jacks

The previous owner put lazy jacks on my boat. On the mast there is two pullies that are about 1/3 the way up and then near the bottom of the mast there are two cam cleats. The lines meet up with a line that has pullies spliced at both ends. It is a really neat set-up and it works well (especially handy when I am single handed)

simple way

Yes, my lazy jacks are so simple it's stupid. Most people would probably like something fancier with blocks but I've always just rigged something up simple and they've always worked. I've never had a boat without lazy jacks. Such a pain having that main drop in the cockpit. My main is a heavy fabric and big, not the stock main. Anyway, all I do is toss about a 12' line over the spreaders. This line has rings on either end and it goes around the front side of the mast, over the spreaders and back to a point about 3feet above the middle of the boom. Then I have another line about the same length running from beneath the boom in front of the vang, up through the rings on either side and back down to the boom about two thirds of the way to the aft end. You can leave it up the whole time while cruising. Or if racing you can disconnect the aft end and let them hang near the front of the boom. I'll attach a pic that might help.

Here is a link to a website that contains plans for a lazy jack. I have used this plan, with a few modifications, to make my own.

i too am a big advocate of "simple". between the plans, pics and ideas i think i can come-up with something for next season. I can't wait to shake the snow off my boat, (cover), and get started. william

Mike about your lazy Jacks...

I liked how simple that is and how easy it seems like it would be to take it off if needed. I had some questions about what you mounted to the boom etc. If you are so inclinded you could answer here or my e-mail is sales@mortoncontracting.com. Thanks, Rob Morton
