lazy jacks

Any Hunter owners with B&R rig use lazy jacks? I have a Dutchman but need a new sailcover and am thinking of getting a UK Lazy Cradle, which combines a sailcover and lazy jacks (similar to Mack Pack or Stack Pack). It would replace the Dutchman. I'm curious if the sweptback spreaders would foul or chafe the lazy jacks. Any insights?

I'm also considering the Doyle Stack Pack or Cradle Cover (similar to Stack Pack but main is loose-footed) for my 1985 Hunter 28.5. I was able to see working models of the Mack Pack and Stack Pack at the Annapolis Boat Show recently and liked them. I hadn't thought about the spreaders and don't believe they would interfere with the lazy jacks, though would also be interested in hearing from someone who has them.

Lazy jacks and integrated main sail cover were standard on my 2002 356 and I think have been on all of the newer designs since then (except for in-mast furling models, of course.) I like the system. The sail drops 85% in the 'jacks and no further furling is needed. I let it sit in the 'jacks until I get back to the slip and go home for the day. It can be slightly tricky getting the battens to clear the 'jacks on the way up, but I live with that and it usually works fine. I'm probably the rarity these days with the full main (rather than furled) on a Hunter this large or larger. But it's a good sail, and I like it. Singlehanded yesterday, no issues.

Folding Lazy Jacks

On my 290 Hunter I switched to folding lazy jacks and work with regular sail cover.
I had some cheap line and just copied from some one on this forum,it was trial and error setting them up but when all done they worked great, can even set them up to work from cockpit but I did not and went to the mast to deploy or retract and had no more problems with battens hanging up on the lazy jacks and could also use my normal sail cover.

Re: Folding Lazy Jacks

On my H34, I've install something called Lazybag. I modified the lazy jack to get 4 legs at the bag. The lines are going from the bag to just a bit under the top spreaders around small cheek blocks and back down to a set of small cleats so I can tight the lines as I wish. My wife and I love it, we wouldn't get rid of it. I have a brand new loose foot main.

I have 2 lazy jacks and a mast with two swept back spreaders. They work great when dropping the sail. Minor inconvenience is potential fouling of the main sail top battens by the lazy jack lines when raising the main. The lazy jacks work well for single sailing. I recently purchased the sail cover from Hunterowners and main sail from UK Halsey.

I have a H36 2008 and I was not happy how the sail was cached by the lines. This has helped a lot, nearly everytime the sail is cached compleatly.

I put on a new line further back as uou see by the pictures.

Regards

The factory installed lazy jacks on my 2000 H340 with the B&R rig, has the lazy jacks attached to the lower spreaders. This keeps them open wider at the top but they still foul the battens when raising the sail.

Great photos, thanks! How does your sail cover attach to the boom?
This is standard on new Hunters?
