I am about to make a home made lazy jack system, and have a question for someone who has them. When you are ready to let the sail down, should the weight of the boom be on the lazy jack's, making the lines tight; or should the topping lift be supporting the boom, and the lazy jzck lines a little loose? Thanks in advance for any help. Sam

Topping Lift Supports Boom

If the lazy jacks are too tight, the sail will not fall between them. RD

Yes Topping Lift

What I did was use shock cord for lazy jack lines which made them easy to remove them from the boom and hook them to sides of mast so when raising the main the battens don;t get hung up on lazy jacks which happens quit often. It lets me put my sail cover on much easier, the picture show's the lazy jacks off the boom and to side of mast, don't know if you can see them. I got the idea from sailboat show . nick

Lazy Jacks

Sam, Ran into the same problem on our H26. Had to put a topping lift on. I also added more line to my lazy jacks so that they could be pulled back against the mast when the jacks are loose by using bungee cords. Of course you can save yourself putting on a topping lift by adding a rigid boom vang. Of course you'd have to mount it so it was easy to take off when you drop the mast.
