I have a 96 passage 42 and the transom lazerette is leaking in sea water when I'm underway. I suspect the it's coming in where the deck meets the hull. Anyone else had this? Recommended fixes?

I've heard of this before. People either pull the rub rail off, shoot a bunch of 5200 into it and reinstall; or they fiberglass tape the joint from inside to completely seal the joint.

there are 2 sets of lazzarete lockers- first in the deck and second on transom step- i have found another cause of water into the deck lockers is if you have a lot of water running down the deck- say like a heavy rain storm, the water exits the deck at the end of the toe rail , which is just at the rear edge of the deck locker hatch- i found that water was draining in through this lid gap and the drain is unable to cope- it overflows and there is only a single drain tube for the entire lid drain. I have added a small "P' shaped rubber gasket to seal this gap on this low side- i now have dry lockers!
The other obvious one is on the transom step lockers- i added latches as without these in a big following sea water can actuallly lift the lids and water pours in! I can post some pictures next week if you like.

We had it happenning when we were powering, since the stern is lower. I spread talcum powder throughout the lazerette, took the boat our for a spin. The powder showed me exactly where it was coming in. Some 5200 and haven't seen a drop for years.

Thanks everyone. The ones in question are not on the deck, they are aft in the step down. I only get the seawater in when I'm motoring when the transom is lower in the water. My thought was actually some 5200 on the deck/hull gap also. It's the only place it could be coming in.

I found leak

Had same problem. I found out that stern lazerette is divided with bulkhead to port and starboard side. This bulkhead is glassed to rudder post and all the way to hull/deck join. My leak was coming right from rudder post above bottom rudder bushing and filled bulkhead board with water. Laminated post tube was badly made by manufacturer! There was very thin glass and a lot of air cavities in the tube wall. When you are under power stern dips in and water line is just above bushing where water ingress from stern tube. I removed rudder and it was very visible that tube was in fault.
Check if your bulkhead has any water in. I got water this way into lazerette. BTW, bottom of lazerette is not hull it is glassed interior module.
Good luck.
John
