I need to build a 1" frame around my lazarette to accomodate the new outboard I just installed. It looks as if the cowling is about an inch too large when tilted out of the water. I had to cut an inch out of the bottom of the transom to get the engine (a Johnson 15) to even clear the transom and tilt all the way out of the water. So I am not surprised that further modifications are needed. Has anyone done this and can anyone offer any advice? Thanks, Chris D Toy Box #3636

Chris, You can check the archives of this website, the subject is often discussed. First, however, you may enjoy a very detailed article in the C 27 projects section of the International Catalina 27 Association's website. The author's lazarette modification will interest you. (hey, there's pictures even!) Check it out at.... http://www.paw.com/sail/catalina27/default.htm This same article is also linked in the "Unofficial" Cat 27 website as well as many other cool upgrade and modification pieces. That address is.... http://www.geocities.com/catalina+27/ Your idea of raising the whole thing up an inch has merit, but may be somewhat more technically challenging than simply modifying the portion of the hatch that needs more clearance. Good Luck.
