Fellow Sailors: I keep finding a small leak in my port and stern lazarettes. The rubber weather-stripping seems to be in good condition. Nevertheless, whenever there is a good rain, I find that it has added about 1/2 gallon of water to my bilge and there is about 1/2 an inch of standing water in my stern lazarette. Any ideas? Anyone have this problem and fixed it? Thanks for all your help, John Manzano

Check the drain hole in the steering well

The drain whole in the steering well is about a 1/2 inch in diameter. Thus any little piece of trash will plug it up. When it is plugged up rain water fills the well and runs out the hole for the engine control cables. Next time I pull my boat I am thinking of dropping the ruder and putting a 1 inch thru hull in the bottom of the steering well. This is on a 1989 C-30.
