Back in 2006 I put in our gear report (http://www.svguenevere.com/2006/gear/gear2.html) that it is "Absolutely the BEST head we have ever had aboard a boat!". As of today, sitting here on board, we still say that!!!!!!
So far the only maintenance we have had to do was replace the seals on the lid, about a 1 min job.
We have the Lavac and concur; best head for the boat! We've had one for about 7 years. The seals in the pump eventually need to be replaced due to scale but there are no small parts to break or clog and the fix is easy. There are rebuild kits for the big Henderson / Whale Mark V pump to rebuild the seals - buy from Defender. The seals around the seat last a long time and the support from the US distributor in Fl is very good.
To stop that long wait, I removed the small rubber one way flapper in the vacuum break on the raw water intake line. Now to flush, we put one finger on it to create the vacuum, and pump. When done, the lids open at once, no long wait.
