I am looking for advice on ramp launching the capri22 fin keel. I finally got my trailer set up with a 30 foot tow strap/tongue wheel. This past week I went to pull the boat and ran into the following problems.1. I could not get the bow of the boat to stay on the bow support--as I pulled the boat out the bow would lower and come off the support. It was off 8 to 10 inches. (maybe the trailer was too deep?)2. As a result of number one--as the boat was being pulled the boat was now off the intended position by 10 inches or so and the trailer and boat wanted to tip backwards. The CG was now off. At this point I knew the boat would need to stay in the water until I figured out how to keep the bow in the bow support. The trailer I have is a single axle trailer with 6 pads, and the bow support is straight up--not at an angle as others. Could anyone offer some advice on the problem I have with getting the bow in the correct location. Also, how far should my front pads be under water?  One thing I keep thinking about is when the trailer and boat are in the water--the boat is horizontal and the trailer is at an angle. Once the boat is connected to the trailer at the bow--that position of the bow stop will move downward has the boat is being lifted by trailer. The boat must rotate to get in positioned with the trailer. Any advice you can offer would be great.

Winch tighter?

Your final paragraph about the two different angles seems correct. Wonder if you could just winch the boat a little tighter before pulling it out? Or maybe you'll need to re-do the trailer a bit by moving the bow V-stop up front a bit forward or the basal bow support a little aft. What are you using for a "tongue wheel"? I'm looking for something a little stronger than the common trailer jack which I bent the last time I used the disconnect the trailer launch technique (I confess that I forgot to crank it back down before running it down the ramp). Thanks for the response. One question, when you put the trailer in the water how deep do you go? I am thinking my front pads need to be at or just below water. This was not the case last week---I had them deep.To answer your question on the tongue wheel:I went to a tractor supply store and bought a 12 inch pneumatic caster (rigid) and bolted it to a 1/4 inch thick plate that is also bolted to the tongue. The wheel seem to work very well. It is also rated for 500 - 750 lbs.

Launch a C-22

I launch and take out my fin keel C-22 using a 30 foot length of cable. I sink the trailer so that the pads are about 8-10 inches underwater. Then we drive the boat over the trailer (we have long guide "sticks" to get centered over the trailer as well as wooden guides that keep the keel in center) and then we attach the winch cable and wich it tight up against the "V" rubber bumber right below the winch. As we pull forward the boat stays still and, as you noted, rotates down onto the trailer. Works just fine. The key is to winch it tight so it wont slide back.

deep trailer?

It sounds like you put your trailer pretty deep to get the bow stop in the correct position???The problem I had was the bow pad was too high at initial hook-up. If I put the trailer deeper to get the bow support in the proper position realtive to the boat I could see that if you winch in tight and pull out that the boat will rotate about the bow support and onto the trailer. The bow support would effectively lift the bow up before the boat will rest on the pads.
