..last Saturday, in a field of 33 boats, we took a 6th overall and 2nd in Class. Got beaten by a J44, Evelyn 42, Frers 45, and Jenneau 43. All with PHRF's from 33 to 117. However, we beat (2) S2 9.1, Frers 41TM, (2) X 332, X 99, C&C 99, Frers 33, J 34c, J92, Tripp 36, Antrim 27, Swan 391, C&C 40, Ericson 39. A pretty good field of competion. I think Hunters can hold their own against the big guys. For the 33 mile race our time was 5hrs 32min uncorrected which translates to an average speed of 6kts. On our spinnaker run we topped out at 10kts with wind of 19 true. On the trip home the wind died as we got within 2 miles of the finish or our average speed would have been a lot higher. Damn, but it was a great race. Wish we could have more like this!!!

Which Hunter Model?

Congratulations, but I missed seeing your model and PHRF rating. We see some Hunter owner's moaning over their ratings, but I don't feel most owner's work at outfitting or maximizing their boats to sail to their ratings. You obviously take pride in placing well, so I wonder what you and your crew do to 'make it happen'.

Boy, have you got that right!!

My model is a Legend 35.5. I've done everything imaginable to upgrade and I've got a great crew. Our local PHRF rating is 141. I know to some this seems high, but the rest of the YRA fleet has ratings accordingly. The kicker is that we regularly beat boats with ratings in the 100 to 117 without handicap. Most of the boats in Saturday's race were beaten uncorrected! Last year we corrected out against the entire fleet and won the annual trophy.
