I never liked the white Formica table in the cabin. I wanted to replace it with wood but was always afraid to remove the compression post to slide off the table.
I decided to make a wooden top that sits on top of the existing table. I used a thin sheet of birch laminate. Prior to cutting I placed a piece of construction paper on top of the table and made a template. It had to be 2 halves so it could go around the compression post. You will notice I cut ears into the wood so it locks in place around the existing slide preventers. The cut wasn't perfect but came out pretty well.
Cherry wood stain was a pretty good match. 6 Coates of varnish, wet sanded and buffed up to shine.
Just thought I would share.
