...why is it when a government agency has a new assignment, they go nuts without a shred of common sense. See this latest from the Mexican equivalent of the IRS and check for the latest (which is unchanged other than everyone is raising h**l about it). This will certainly screw up the regattas and flotillas to Mexican ports. I have been following this at a few other places and after cruising Mexico (Pacific side) from 04 to 08, still have friends there. I think this is way over blown. Yes, some boats are in danger of being taken, BUT, I think it's more like the ones that have been abandoned, or have not even tried to comply with the local laws.

Just my nickel's worth.

I have been following this at a few other places and after cruising Mexico (Pacific side) from 04 to 08, still have friends there. I think this is way over blown. Yes, some boats are in danger of being taken, BUT, I think it's more like the ones that have been abandoned, or have not even tried to comply with the local laws.Greg

I totally agree it will be sorted out, but the fact that the agency has indicated it will take all the time necessary (read 45 days to six months) to respond while your boat is frozen in a slip is going to make heads spin and posts fly all over. The point is it has done damage unnecessarily and that is a shame. I was planning another trip this year and am watching this closely. If my wife read it, the decision would already be made.

If your boat is not already down there, I suspect there is nothing to fret about at all. If you already have a valid TIP, "planning another trip this year", just make sure it's all filled out correctly and get the proper visas.

Rick, If your boat is not already down there, I suspect there is nothing to fret about at all. If you already have a valid TIP, "planning another trip this year", just make sure it's all filled out correctly and get the proper visas. Greg

Got the TIP. Everything is in order just like some of those boats with holds. I'll go since it's going to be worked out. It's just so damn stupid that one agency can squander years of goodwill. Happens everywhere, I know, but still stupid and irresponsible. I fully understand they have a serious enforcement issue with respect to consistency but that could be managed via local authorities and reviewing their accountability.
