Used?

I am sure you can find some nice used ones. I bought my 26 used -- got a good boat, good price, and love it.

the pricing really sucks on the new 27 (really 26') sounds like a great boat but its out of the price range for alot of weekend sailers they they were trying to market it to

Also pre-owned

We got a great deal on a preowned 2001 H260. It had sat in the dealer's showroom for a year until it was bought in Spring 2002. It was sailed for one summer on Lake Minnetonka, and then the owner was transfered. It then sat for a year(2003) and we bought it in March 2004. It was in fantacstic condition and only needed a little bottom paint, and a few adjustments(we replaced the single wet cell with 2 AGM, added a VHF radio, and 12V outlet for accessories. The boat was pretty well loaded to start and we saved about 12K buying used. As far as I'm concerned, it was in showroom condition(except the bottom paint).

$60,000 for 27'?

I can understand the interest in the trailerable 26' boats, particularly for lake sailing. However, I'm sure glad I've kept my 28.5 for 17 years now, but can't comprehend the posssible interest in a heavier smaller and slower boat with a saildrive, particularly at that price. Think of how much equipment and upgrades you can get or add to a 'pre-owned' older model and still be nowhere near that price.

New 25 just over the horizon ?

At the link that Mark from Springfield posted, there was also this article: "New 25 just over the horizon A new 25 will join the Legend range some time this winter. It will be based on the 260 hull but with an hydraulic lifting keel with substantial weight at its foot. This will increase stability compared with the water-ballasted predecessor. A further gain will be the possibility of lowering the cabin sole and enhancing the headroom. A new deck moulding, possibly with conventional side decks, will complete the new model." If the Legend is the Brits version of the Hunter then perhaps there is an improved 260 around the corner ? The concept of the lifting keel vs water balast would be an improvement in my opinion.

Hydraulic Lifing System

IMHO - seeing how well my H-26 sails in fairly high winds (i.e. it's not THAT sensitive - sails great) - the replacement of a water ballast with a 'hydraulic lifting keel system portends: Higher initial cost Higher maintenenance costs Additional points of failure (leaking hydraulic fluid; seals; hydraulic pump? hydraulic lines; point(s) of connection with the keel, etc....) Perhaps drawing more water than the H-26 with the center board raised? Perhaps increased power consumption (Hydraulic Pump?) Much more weight (i.e. won't be able to trailer it with a Jeep Cherokee I'll bet) I came from owning a Catalina 22 with a swing keel - a great boat - but the maintenance and the worry factor of the keel mechanism was one of the reasons we moved to the W/B H-26. I realize I'm probably speaking too soon here, I'm certain Hunter has addressed each and every of my points of concern. ;) It will be interesting to see the new '25' when it arrives. Tom Grass

$60K!!??!?!?!???

What is Hunter thinking?? For $60,000 you're getting into trailerable trimaran territory. My Hunter 26 is a great boat, does everything I want it too, and more, but folks just aren't falling over each other to part with that kind of bucks for a weekender. I know there's some top-end low production virtually hand made boats in that price and size range, but that's never been Hunter's market location.

Isn't The New 27

..an updated version of this one? There must be some market for it. It had a good run. See link. I'll bet there is another trailerable on the boards (without knowing anything specific). RD

The new 27 was at Annapolis

I got to look at the new Hunter 27 at the Annapolis Boat Show. It is beautiful and the accomidations are great. Unfortunately, Hunter is moving away from water ballest all together. It has an enclosed head, shower, hot water, can be set up for AC, and a lot of other really nice cruising features. If I was going to get a new 27 and I was going to keep it in the water this would be the boat. I lover Hunter's new look and the low maintenance it requires! What I was told is that the new Hunter 25 will be released soon. It will not be water ballast but it will have a retractable keel. It will have a skeg on the bottom with lead weight in it. It should be pretty heavy but I don't think that it will outweigh my Hunter 22 by too much (Modern construction is much lighter). Since I had vehicle problems from pulling my 4000 lb Hunter 22, I moved up to a Ford F350 Diesel so there isn't much out there that I can't pull. I was told to watch the web sight for the information on the Hunter 25, but they haven't taken the 260 or the 240 off yet and they haven't added the 27. I wish that they were up to speed and they would unveil the plans for the 25. This whole thing is fustrating. My wife and I were planning to move up to Hunter 260 in 5 years (my current Hunter 22 is our first cruising boat). I like the option of trailering right now because it cuts down on maintenance, you don't have to pay slip fees, and a host of other advantages. Slip fees are getting to be very expensive these days and you save $1000s a year by dry slipping a boat. Plus it is nice for bad weather (I have pulled my boat out during a vacation because of one of the remains of a hurricane coming my way).

remaining 260 sailboats

I know where there are still three new 260 sailboats that are 2005 models. Leave me your email and I will put you in touch with the dealer. For the record, I do not post who I am or where I am at but you might as well know I was sadden at the news of the 260 ending. I was the culprit that convinced Hunter to go that route and the only dealer involved with the designs. For the record, the last Hunter 260 coming off the line is coming to my dealership next week which I am thankful that it is mine out of recognition. I will post further information on the new 25 as soon as I get more. There are preliminary drawings but things have yet to be finalized.
