Last year I bought a Hunter 26.5 and kept it at a slip. This year, we've moved closer to home and are on a mooring. My question is, what's the best way to lash the tiller while on a mooring, the 26.5 tiller lifts up and can rotate 360 degrees. When I was at the slip, I used to just lift it out of the way and lash it to the back swim platform ladder that stored upright. That seemed to work fine in the slip, but I imagine it won't out on a mooring. Could I leave it in the down position on the cockpit floor and cover it with a notched 2x6 and sort of "chock" it between the cockpit seats, or is there a better way to do this....?

Lash Tiller

I have a Sunbrella sleeve that fits over the tiller. About 1/2 way up I have two SS rings; one on each side. From these I run 1/4" lines to my aft mooring cleats. Keeps the tiller centered and protects it from UV at the same time.

Don't wrap it

I do the same thing as Ken but I use a couple of bungie cords from the steel rings to the cleats. I hook both bungie cords through both rings so they won't split the tiller cover. What ever you do, don't wrap a line around the tiller and then cleat her off to both sides. I did that and she worked loose ever so little. Just enough to rub the finish raw. I had to sand down and refinish the tiller after that.

Thanks

Thanks for the info, I have the tiller cover too, so i'll try that, how did you guys attach the rings to the cover though?

Cover

At the location where I wanted the SS rings I had a band of webbing sewn and the rings are attached to the webbing. It's the kind of webbing used for a strap or belt. I had it done by a local tent & awning shop and only took them a few minutes.
