prevention
Interesting thought. With avalanche prevention, the idea is to knock down the snowbank before it gets too big. Basically, create a small avalanche before a big one happens on it's own. Not sure what potential tsumani source your thinking about. If it's the volcano, the mass is already there. It might be possible to knock smaller chunks off, but blowing holes in the side of an active volcanoe might just cause the catastrophic eruption/collapse we want to avoid. I defer to volcanic geologists on that one. There have also been reports of fractures along the continental shelf just off the US eastern seaboard. If that collapses, the tsunami would be even bigger than the volcano induced one, and we'd have much less advanced notice. Not sure how we'd go about reducing that threat. Massive dredging????
