I am a novice when it comes to marine electronics. We are transitioning from lake sailers to blue water and have begun searching for Chartplotter/GPS/Radar combo package. Talk about sticker shock!!! *yks Is it not possible to run the Chartplotter/GPS/Radar on a laptop instead of investing in a plotter monitor. The laptop screen is larger, can store more info, can be carried off the boat and can be used to interface with other systems like the Auto Pilot. We have two laptops that we wil be caring with us anyway. Is it possible to purchase the components to turn the laptop into the nav center? What are the pros and cons?
