Avoid Dell! Here's Why........

Fourteen months ago I purchased a 5150 laptop for about $1500 and Nobeltec software. To date I haven't used it for navigation, only occasional internet searching. Last week it refused to boot up. Dell service techs by phone determined the mother board failed. It's 2 months out of warranty and they want $700 for repairs. It was never dropped or wet. When I searched for parts I found several of these systems for sale on ebay (for parts) all with bad mother boards. Other web sites discuss the common problems with these. Dell says there is no problem and they can fix it (almost for the cost of a new machine) My response was to file a consumer (and stockholder) complaint and tell everyone I know about my Dell experience. Their competitors stand behind their products much better.

Also, look at Toughbook

From Panasonic. Some of the models even have built-in GPS. Probably kinda pricey, though. Link to toughbook models: http://www.panasonic.com/computer/toughbook/home.asp Toughbook 29 with optional GPS: http://catalog2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ModelDetail?displayTab=O&storeId=11201&catalogId=13051&itemId=68953&catGroupId=14967&modelNo=Toughbook-29&surfModel=Toughbook-29 My pleasure on the mac links, by the way. Don't know why anyone uses anything else. :)
