I have put in a bid on a lancer powersailer. I have stayed away from Macgreagor because of lightweight construction. Does anyone really know about the lancer construction? The only articles I could find seemed to suggest they are ok, but sailboat sales people seem to classify them with Macgreagor. What is the truth? Should I keep looking?

For what it's worth.

David, I looked at a Lancer 28 because I really liked the looks of it, but the previous owner told me due to its shoal keel design, it was very tender in high winds. I also looked up its PHRF rating, and it is very slow... I really wanted a shoal keel model so I looked at an O'day 26 that was for sale. Nicer interior with comparable headroom (5'8" to 5'9") and it has a 2.5 ft shoal keel with a centerboard that goes to 6' to add stiffness when needed. Sweet! There are not many 26's around, but there are quite a few 25's that are similar. Both have an 8' beam as does the Lancer. I'd keep looking.

The Lancer is neither a good powerboat nor a good sailboat. In accomodating both needs they sacrifice both, I'd keep looking too!

It is not as fast as

Mac-26, I think 8 knot under power for the lancer, 22 for the Mac-26. I think you made a mistake! Mac-26 is still in production. It is so popular it's the only boat they make. Are you planning on going in the ocean? Good Luck? I think you bought a white elephant
