I'm looking at a damaged Lancer 25',1976, it will need two new railings, one for the bow and the other for the stern. Any ideas on where this might be obtained and for how much? I tried a 'search' for lancer but keep coming up short. Thx, Ray

How Much?
You can always have stern and bow pulpits manufactured but at what cost relative to the cost of the boat. The real issue is what are you paying for the boat and what will it cost to put it back into shape. A good sailable 25 should run about $4000-5000.

Forgive my assumption that you want to sail and not just work at a sailboat, but why not get something intact...........unless the Lancer is almost free. We had a Lancer 28: it was tippy, slow and uncomfortable. for the same price you could have a san juan or hunter or columbia or any other really nice old boat. You can be sure you will pour 50% of book value into anything you buy within 24 months. If you insist or can get the boat for a really cheap price, you can have the railings redone/remanufactured. S&S in Norfolk is our local premier facility but most seaports have shops that can help. Forgive the heresy but stinkpotter marinas probably can help you more with fabrication sites. Good luck, joe

...what someone's willing to pay. Every vessel, and for that matter car , truck, motorcycle and so on. Has it'e strong and weak points. I had a Lancer 28 for a coupole of years and found it essentialy satisfactory for a decent size boat with THREE feet of draft. Quite important on Barnegat bay. Bow pulpit and stern rail? Defender sells universal fit bow and stern rails from Tops In Quality. much like the originals, anfd not too costly, in the range of $215 to $250 in the 2000 catalog , (page 63) the latest I can lay my hand on right now.

Ray: Most trailers are worth $800. Buy the boat and play with it. If you get tired of it you will be no worse for the time and money you will put into it. My god, some people spend more that $800 on drink and entertainmend for a month or so.
