Lancer 28 bow stay lenght?????

Hi, I need to buy the bow stay for my lancer 28 but it will be better if I know more precisely its lenght and of course I dont want to go to the mast top to loose the old one in order to reduce the risks. My manual doesn´t have any information about this. Any of you know the lenght of this stay.nn :confused:

The best way is to send the old one in as even on a one design boat like My J24 there all different lenths


If not you have to measure and be correct OR have one end swaged and do the other end with a swageless terminal

The Lancer 28 is a trailerable so you should be able to unstep the mast with the help of a friend. Do that, pull the stay and take it to the shop. We can step the mast of our Lancer 25 in about 10 minutes so your 28 will take a little more time. If it's your first time, go to the Lance Owners Forum and ask the question. I'll meet you ther.

How do you figure on replacing the fore stay once you do get the measurement?

Or you can put a measuring tape on the jib halyard and run it up as close to the masthead fitting as possible... It doesn't have to be exact, cause the stud on the end provides a few inches of adjustment. You can also use a swageless terminal on the adjusting end... BTW you will have to go up the mast to change it out. Make sure the clevis pin hole size and wire size is correct and consistent with the other primary stays.

Or... since you have to go up the mast anyway... why not make two trips.. go up and take the old stay off, use the jib halyard as a replacement while the stay is down, measuer and order online, ot take it to a local rigger and have him duplicate it

Unless there is a Lancer 28 that I can't find, Chad Turner specifically designed the Lancer 28 to be trailerable, with an 8'-0 beam and 2'-10 draft, like the other Lancers in that length range. According to the owners manual, you should be able to step it pretty easily. If you haven't done it before, be careful when it gets past 60 degrees. The shrouds are loose and the mast can go right over the side if you aren't careful. Loop a line loosely around the mast, tie a figure 8 knot,then run it up to the spreaders with the halyard. Your assistant can stand on the deck and pull against whatever way it is leaning. This can be done on the water and in 30 knot gusts. Ask me how I know. Though the instructions show stepping it forward, I step my mast aft. That way it isn't beyond it's balance point over the rail. I also have a roller on the aft support. I pick up and start rolling as the crew makes sure all stays and shrouds are free.
